One Day My Carbon-Neutral Prince Will Come

“One Day My Carbon-Neutral Prince Will Come”

Who would have guessed that the green revolution would come from… a Royal head?

Well, you have to face it: Prince Charles has been supporting the ecological cause in more ways than most politicians you can think of.

To begin with, Charles refused quite a few times to attend overseas events in order not to take a flight and increase his carbon emissions! Call it post-modern protocol… It is said that the Prince's household and activities are now carbon neutral.

Charles has also relentlessly defended slow food and organic agriculture against GMOs. It might have seemed funny at the beginning to some green believers, but it is not funny anymore, is it?

He pushed even further by opening his own food store last year. Thanks to this magnanimous decision, plebeians can buy their Royal Gelee from what observers consider as the “poshest veg shop”?

Now, the latest declaration he made is that we have “100 months to save the world”, otherwise the environment will be damaged irreversibly. That sounds like a scary statement, but I believe that this is the kind of warning we need to get our asses moving in the right direction..

However, the cherry on the cake has been kept for the end of this post. Charles has just been named the “world's best-dressed man”! Well, are we supposed to discuss ecology or fashion here? Hum, let’s say that Prince Charles has an evergreen style: Not so fashionable, therefore never out of fashion. He might even apply the 3R rule to his own Royal de Luxe wardrobe.

In conclusion, 2009 seems to be Prince Charles’ crowning year as he is being acknowledged worldwide as one of the Kings of Green. Mind you, today our Prince has come…

God save the Green*, Prince save the Green or… Green Save Us… You choose.

*expression from Nadege Winter

PS: Obviously, Prince Charles is also being criticized, but that might be the topic for a future post… (Eg Prince Charles: Green Hero or Hypocrite? www.theroyalforums.com/tag/prince-charles/)
